Three terms from role playing game design:
Gamist - refers to elements that are about winning, problem solving, and game play itself. When all you care about is the goal, that's gamism.
Narrativist - refers to elements that serve a dramatic theme or story. When you are doing things that are interesting or meaningful, that's narrativism.
Simulationist - refers to elements that are about modeling reality within the game. When you are trying to be realistic, that's Simulationism.
Of course, a good role-playing game usually combines these approaches in some way.
