&#60;p&#62;Gamist - refers to elements that are about winning, problem solving, and game play itself. When all you care about is the goal, that's gamism.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Narrativist - refers to elements that serve a dramatic theme or story. When you are doing things that are interesting or meaningful, that's narrativism.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Simulationist - refers to elements that are about modeling reality within the game. When you are trying to be realistic, that's Simulationism.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Of course, a good role-playing game usually combines these approaches in some way.
